INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

On 20 October, Shandong Nuclear Power’s Haiyang Unit 2 nuclear power plant successfully achieved a one-time grid connection. All of the plant’s main pump frequency converters have been localized and are operating reliably, making Haiyang Unit 2 China’s first AP1000 unit to operate fully reliant on domestic main pump frequency converters under load.

The main pump frequency converter is a critical electrical equipment in third-generation AP1000 passive pressurized water reactor nuclear power plants. It performs functions such as frequency and voltage conversion for the main pump, as well as limiting the pump’s starting current. It serves as the sole power supply for the main pump. To enhance the reliability of the main pump power supply in advanced third-generation passive nuclear power units, Haiyang Nuclear Power implemented a three-phase ‘step-by-step’ strategy over three years to achieve the localization of the main pump frequency converters.
