The China-Russia Joint Coordination Meeting on Nuclear Safety was held in Beijing on 29 October. Dong Baotong, Administrator of China’s National Nuclear Safety Administration (NNSA), attended and addressed the meeting. Alexander Trembitsky, Chairman of the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service (Rostechnadzor), led the Russian delegation.

Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on various topics, including regulatory approaches to light water reactors with long fuel cycles and higher initial enrichment, nuclear fuel safety management, regulatory oversight for freeze protection at nuclear power plants in cold conditions, and fusion radiation safety. Experts at the meeting also discussed technical issues of mutual interest, drawing on their practical experience.

The Coordination Meeting serves as a regular cooperation mechanism between the nuclear safety regulatory authorities of the two countries. During this meeting, the two regulators signed a supplementary arrangement to amend the nuclear safety cooperation agreement. They agreed to further expand the areas of cooperation, strengthen the sharing of nuclear safety regulatory experience and technical collaboration, and jointly enhance nuclear safety regulatory capabilities, thereby contributing positively to deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination between China and Russia in the new era.
