INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

On 24 August, the China Institute of Atomic Energy announced that its Reactor Engineering Technology Institute had successfully completed the principle verification test of the integral residual heat removal system for the integrated closed-cycle fast reactor nuclear energy system (Integral Fast Reactor).

The test results were reviewed and approved by experts from Tsinghua University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, North China Electric Power University and Chongqing University.

This marks China’s first principle verification test of novel passive residual heat removal technology for fast reactors, representing a significant breakthrough in overcoming the key technological challenges of the integral fast reactor. This achievement provides strong support for advancing the design and development of this reactor concept.
