On 19 June, China’s first industrial nuclear-powered steam supply project, known as ‘Heqi No. 1’, celebrated its first anniversary of safe and stable operation. Since commissioning, the project has supplied over 3.17 million tonnes of clean steam, setting a strong precedent for the wider use of nuclear energy in industrial steam supply.
The successful operation of ‘Heqi No. 1’ represents a significant step forward in China’s nuclear energy utilization, expanding beyond electricity generation and residential heating to include industrial steam supply. Over the past year, the project has achieved continuous technological improvements and operational experience, offering a replicable model for similar initiatives in other nuclear power projects across the country.
