
At an executive meeting on 27 April, the State Council approved several nuclear power projects, including Phase III of Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Zhejiang Province. Approval was given for five projects comprising ten nuclear power units: Fangchenggang Phase III (Units 5 and 6) in Guangxi; Taishan Phase II (Units 3 and 4) in Guangdong; Sanmen Phase III (Units 5 and 6) in Zhejiang; Haiyang Phase III (Units 5 and 6) in Shandong and Xiapu Phase I (Units 1 and 2) in Fujian.
The meeting emphasized the paramount importance of nuclear safety in the nuclear power development. Participants and owners of the projects were required to fulfil their primary responsibilities and construct and operate nuclear power plants in line with the highest safety standards. They were also required to continuously enhance nuclear safety regulation to ensure a fully effective nuclear safety management system.
