On 28 March, the Nuclear Power Institute of China (NPIC) announced that the independently developed prototype of an online protection system for fuel rod linear power density and departure from nucleate boiling ratio (DNBR) has passed a rigorous seismic test. This achievement marks the completion of the development and validation of the first protection system based on key physical and thermal parameters of the reactor core, and represents a major breakthrough in core safety protection technology.
The NPIC R&D team has focused on improving signal measurement and calculation capabilities, enhancing tolerance to harsh environments, and ensuring high reliability and safety. As a result, the Hualong One reactor’s core neutron measurement system has undergone a comprehensive structural and functional upgrade. The upgraded system is now fully compatible with the entire Hualong One reactor series.
