On 10 December 2024, Wang Hongzhi, head of the National Energy Administration (NEA), met with Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev in Beijing. The two sides held in-depth discussions on cooperation in nuclear energy, oil and gas, electricity and renewable energy.

Wang Hongzhi stressed the importance of effectively implementing the outcomes of the heads of state meeting. He called for further strengthening of communication and exchanges between the energy authorities of the two countries, and for guiding and supporting enterprises to deepen practical cooperation. This includes ensuring the implementation of existing oil and gas supply contracts, maintaining the safe and reliable operation of oil and gas pipelines, jointly developing new energy projects such as wind power and photovoltaics, and expanding cooperation in the nuclear energy sector.

Satkaliyev noted that energy cooperation between Kazakhstan and China is an important foundation of their bilateral relations. He expressed Kazakhstan’s willingness to actively deepen cooperation in the oil and gas fields, welcomed Chinese enterprises to participate in the development of power and renewable energy projects in Kazakhstan, and hoped to learn from China’s advanced experience in the nuclear power sector to explore further cooperation opportunities.
