On 5 December 2024, Wang Hongzhi, head of the National Energy Administration, spoke at the 2025 National Energy Conference. He said that 11 units in five projects, including the Jiangsu Xuwei project, had been approved in 2024. This brings the total number of nuclear power units in operation, under construction and approved in China to 102, with an installed capacity of 113GWe, making China the global leader in nuclear power capacity.

In 2025, China plans to approve several coastal nuclear power projects that are ready for construction. In addition, the country will continue to steadily advance the construction of ongoing nuclear power projects, aiming to complete the “Guohe One” demonstration project and other units. By the end of 2025, the installed capacity of operational nuclear power is expected to reach 65GWe.
