China’s nuclear power sector received significant recognition for its contributions to safety and excellence in the industry at the 17th Biennial General Meeting of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO).
At the meeting, held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, five global leaders, including Gao Ligang, General Manager of China General Nuclear Corporation (CGNPC), received the WANO Nuclear Excellence Award for their outstanding efforts in improving nuclear safety performance.
In addition, six Chinese nuclear power plants were honored for achieving WANO’s Action for Excellence (AfE) by 2024. They are the Daya Bay, Ling’ao, Ningde, Yangjiang, Fangchenggang and Taishan nuclear power plants of CGNPC.
In a new initiative, WANO also presented the Young Generation Rising Star Award to four young professionals in the global nuclear industry, highlighting their outstanding achievements. They included Zhao Wentao from CNNC’s Jiangsu Nuclear Power and Pan Feng, Chief Maintenance Engineer from CGNPC’s Ningde Nuclear Power.
The meeting, themed “Fusing Futures: Sustainable Performance in the Tech and Net Zero Era”, highlighted the industry’s focus on innovation, safety and sustainability as it moves towards a zero-carbon future.
