Ambassador Li Song, Permanent Representative of China to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), delivered an important statement at the IAEA Board of Governors meeting on 10 September. In his address, Li Song outlined China’s progress in nuclear science, technology and applications, and reiterated China’s proactive stance on the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology for the benefit of the global South.

Li Song noted that this year marks the 40th anniversary of China’s membership in the IAEA, presenting an opportune moment for China to strengthen its comprehensive cooperation with the Agency and other Member States. He highlighted the successful 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation held in Beijing, which highlighted cooperation in nuclear science and technology as an important way to enhance exchanges and cooperation between China and Africa for the benefit of African countries and the global South.

Li Song said that China is eager to work with the IAEA and other Member States to actively implement the Global Development Initiatives, jointly promote global development cooperation, and collectively advance the cause of nuclear energy and technology for peaceful applications.
