From 19 to 23 August, the Nuclear Power Branch of the China Nuclear Energy Association (CNEA) conducted a member support activity focusing on radiation safety preparations for major maintenance at the State Nuclear Power Demonstration Plant. During the activity, a team of experts engaged in extensive technical exchanges with power plant personnel through technical lectures, on-site observations and group discussions.
The experts shared their extensive experience and provided detailed insights into radiation protection management and operations during power plant overhauls. They discussed best practices for radiation protection management in the event of fuel damage, the selection and application of radiation indices, the measurement and control of Ag-110m source terms, and feedback from previous overhauls on radiation protection.
The team discussed in detail the current shortcomings in the radiation protection preparations for the overhaul at the State Nuclear Power Demonstration Plant. As a result, 24 learning points were identified and the expert team proposed 20 targeted actions for improvement and 12 recommendations based on the current needs of the plant.
