On 29 September 2024, the State Council Information Office of China has released a white paper entitled “China's Energy Transition”, which provides a comprehensive overview of China’s strategic approach to a sustainable energy future.
The document, including a preface and conclusion, is organized into six sections: China’s Path of Energy Transition in the New Era, Promoting Green Energy Consumption, Moving Faster to Build a New Energy Supply System, Developing New Quality Productive Forces in the Energy Sector, Modernizing Energy Governance, and Contributing to a Global Community of Shared Future.
The white paper emphasizes that it has become a global consensus to accelerate energy transition and development, ensure the sustainable use of energy, continuously improve public welfare, and provide a constant impetus to the world economy.
It outlines China’s approach to energy transition, which is based on high-quality development and aims to rapidly build a new type of energy system that is clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient. This approach will ensure a robust energy supply for economic and social development and meet people’s growing desire for a better life.
The white paper also highlights China’s focus on building an ecological civilization, which aims to promote a new model of energy consumption that is economical, efficient, green, and inclusive. It also touches on the country’s efforts to coordinate carbon reduction, pollution control, and green growth, promoting harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
In the context of building a global community with a shared future, the document underscores China’s commitment to deepening international cooperation on green energy and actively contributing to global energy transition efforts. China is poised to work with other countries to build a sustainable energy future.
