On 19 August, the executive meeting of the State Council approved the construction of new nuclear power projects in Zhaoyuan, Shandong; Lufeng, Guangdong; and San’ao, Zhejiang, marking an important milestone for China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN).

CGN’s newly approved units include Zhaoyuan Units 1 & 2, Lufeng Units 1 & 2, and San’ao Units 3 & 4. The Zhaoyuan project is CGN’s first nuclear power project in Shandong and its tenth nuclear power base.

To date, CGN operates 28 nuclear power units and has 16 under construction, with a total installed capacity of 51.162 GWe for both operational and under-construction units. The newly approved six units are mainly of the “Hualong One” design, which represents a significant advance in the large-scale construction of China’s indigenous third-generation nuclear power technology.
