On 17 July 2024, the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) in Liaoning Province poured the first concrete for the nuclear island of Unit 2 of Xudabu Nuclear Power Plant, marking the start of the unit’s main construction. The Xudabu Nuclear Power Plant has thus entered a new era of comprehensive development, with two types of reactors and four units under full construction.

The project is one of the most significant single clean energy investments in Liaoning Province during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, and serves as an important backbone for Huludao City in its efforts to build a clean energy industry cluster.

The construction plan for the Xudabu Nuclear Power Plant includes six pressurized water reactor units, each with a capacity of 1000MWe. Once operational, each set of two units is expected to generate nearly 18 billion kilowatt-hours per year.
