The IAEA Interregional Training Course on Basic Safety in Nuclear Power Plants for Regulatory Authorities started on 24 June 2024 at the Nuclear Industry College (NIC) in Beijing. The course welcomed 52 participants, including 9 instructors, who are IAEA and international experts, and 43 officials from nuclear regulatory authorities and government departments from 29 countries, including Brazil, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Vietnam and Singapore. The one-month training programme is scheduled to conclude on 19 July 2024.
Throughout the training, participants will study the basic principles and issues related to nuclear safety in nuclear power plants. In addition to theoretical instruction, the training will include site visits to the National Research and Development Centre for Nuclear and Radiation Safety Regulation and the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology at Tsinghua University in Beijing. They will also visit the construction site of the Linglong One SMR in Changjiang, Hainan Province, the Nuclear Power Institute of China in Sichuan Province and other nuclear-related institutions.
