On February 23, the first pile foundation at the Tianwan Nuclear Power Base held by China National Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. (CNNP) holdings (a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation was laid for the China's first nuclear energy steam supply project for industrial-users, marking the beginning of the project's construction. This is another new exploring approach by CNNC and CNNP in the field of comprehensive utilization of nuclear energy after the Southern Nuclear Energy Heating (Qinshan Nuclear Power) was carried out in Haiyan, Zhejiang.

The project is jointly implemented by Jiangsu Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. and Petrochemical Base in Xuwei New District, Lianyungang City by the use of the steam of Tianwan NPP Units 3 and 4 as the heat source supplying to the Lianyungang Petrochemical Industrial Base for industrial production.
