February 19, 2022 is “the rains” in the traditional Chinese solar calendar. At this day, the third unit of Hualong No. 1 in the world and the second unit of Hualong No. 1 in China, the No. 6 unit of Fuqing Nuclear Power Station, owned by China Nuclear Power Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation, reached 100% full power operation for the first time. All parameters are normal, laying a solid foundation for Chinese independent third-generation nuclear power Hualong No. 1 demonstration project to be fully put into commercial operation.

As a "national name card" for Chinese nuclear power brand to the global, Hualong No. 1 is a significant achievement in China's nuclear power development, and it is also one of the third-generation nuclear power plants with the highest acceptance in the current global nuclear power market. For two consecutive years, it has been selected as one of the top ten "advanced equipment for the country" of the Chinese Central State-owned Enterprises. Hualong No. 1 is the nuclear power innovation achievement of the third-generation pressurized water reactor with completely independent intellectual property rights developed and designed by China National Nuclear Corporation on the basis of more than 30 years of experience in nuclear power research, design, construction, operation and management. It meets the highest international safety standards and is fully capable of batch construction. At present, the world's first Hualong-1 unit of Fuqing Nuclear Power Unit 5 and the first overseas unit of Pakistan's Karachi Unit 2 have been put into commercial operation in 2021. On February 1, 2022, the EPC contract for the Hualong No. 1 nuclear power project in Argentina was signed.


Each Hualong No. 1 unit is of an installed capacity of 1161 MW with an annual power generation capacity of nearly 10 billion kWh. It could meet the annual production and living electricity demand of a population of 1 million in moderately developed countries. This is equivalent to reducing standard coal consumption by 3.12 million tons and carbon dioxide emissions by 8.16 million tons each year, equivalent to planting more than 70 million trees. It will be of great significance to optimize China's energy structure, promote green and low-carbon development, and help achieve the goal of "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality".


Since the first fuel loading of Fuqing NPP Unit 6, the joint team composed of Fuqing NPP and China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd. has been working continuously to ensure the safe and high-quality commissioning work. They have successively completed various debugging tests under each power level platforms, and the performance of the unit meets the design requirements.
