INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

On September 22 local time, CNNC, Canadian Candu Energy of SNC-Lavalin Group, and Shanghai Electric, under the witness of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, officially signed in Canada the Joint Statement on Establishment of China-Canada Joint Venture by China National Nuclear Corporation, Candu Energy and Shanghai Electric Group, symbolizing breakthroughs in nuclear cooperation between China and Canada.

CNNC and Canada’s nuclear energy cooperation can be traced to the 1990s. In November 2014, CNNC and Candu Company of SNC-Lavalin Group signed a framework agreement on the establishment of China-Canada joint venture.

After nearly two years of negotiations, the parties reached a major consensus on the establishment of the joint venture, and will jointly develop and promote Advanced Fuel CANDU Reactor (AFCR), with a view to jointly tapping the domestic and international HWR market, and enhancing the China-Canada nuclear cooperation to a new height.
